Overview Of Sozo Ministry

SOZO is the Greek word translated “saved, healed, delivered.” Sozo ministry is a unique inner healing and deliverance ministry aimed to get to the root of things hindering your personal connection with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. With a healed connection, you can walk in the destiny to which you have been called.

SALVATION

“That if you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead you shall be saved (sozo).” Romans 10:9

HEALING

“But Jesus turning and seeing her said ‘Daughter take courage your faith has made you well (sozo) and at once the woman was made well (sozo).” Matthew 9:22

DELIVERANCE

“And those who had seen it reported to them how the man who was demon-possessed had been made well (sozo).” Luke 8:36

There are six tools that the SOZO team uses:

  • Father Ladder
  • Four Doors
  • Presenting Jesus
  • The Wall
  • Trigger Mechanisms (Advanced Tool)
  • Divine Editing (Advanced Tool)

Overview Of Shabar Ministry

Shabar is a ministry to individuals who have continued to have inner healing ministry and yet cannot hold on to their healing. This ministry is not a first grab tool but is a tool to use toward the end of the inner healing process. The Shabar ministry was launched in 2002 by developing a Shabar team to ministry to individuals requesting the ministry.

Shabar is a Hebrew word meaning "broken-hearted" from Isaiah 61:1 and can also be translated "shattered".

"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent me to heal the "brokenhearted," to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound." Isaiah 61:1 (NKJ)

The goal of Shabar ministry is to bring knowledge, hope, and wholeness to a "shattered" individual.

There are 3 different approaches:

  • Using Shabar techniques with individuals who need aid in other areas
  • Using Shabar techniques with individuals who are unaware they are shattered
  • Using Shabar techniques with individuals who know they are shattered

This is a testimony of a person who experienced the Shabar ministry.

"I have received ministry for two broken 'places' about 8 years ago. But, the incidents connected to those broken parts were still painful and scary for me. So, on the way home from your Shabar training, my ministry partner and best friend and I did Shabar ministry with those two parts. It was amazing - and I've seen LOTS of good, effective prayer ministry. This was beyond my expectations.

It became apparent that these parts, deeply buried, carried the actual memories of the events where these deep wounds occurred. When I allowed myself (which wasn't often) to remember the events, they were vivid and painful. I remembered in too much detail. The tone of voice. The actual words spoken. How my body felt. I avoided recollections of the events because I knew that a flashback-like experience would accompany those memories. I forgave, again and again, in an effort to find healing for those memories.

The most significant thing that happened is that now, after Shabar ministry, the memories themselves have changed. I still remember the events, but now, the memories are 'softer' The jagged details seem far away. Not dangerous. I still know how I felt and what was said but I don't re-experience those sensations and emotions anymore. When Father took those parts of me, He created a boundary of protection between me and the memories."

History of Sozo

In 1997 Randy Clark, a healing evangelist, held meetings at Bethel Church. At that time, Pastor Clark would send a team to train a congregation how to be prayer servants. A small portion of that training was a model of “deliverance” from Argentina. This model became our first tool “The Four Doors”.

Dawna DeSilva, the leader and founder of the Sozo Ministry, attended this training at Bethel. Afterward, Dawna began to use the concept of “The Four Doors” when she prayed for people. Seeing a miraculous difference in people’s level of freedom, the “Sozo Ministry” was birthed. As the Sozo Ministry developed, the Lord introduced other tools that have aided in people being healed and released from the wounds and lies which have hindered those individuals from the Godhead and their destiny.

In 1998 other churches and organizations requested the Sozo Ministry to share what God had started. Thus, the Bethel Sozo Ministry started traveling to train and equip other churches and organizations to start their own Sozo Ministry. We have traveled international and to numerous states for this training and equipping.

In 2005, the Bethel Sozo Ministry so covered the global, the International Bethel Sozo Organization was created to aid and support all the Bethel Sozo Ministry Teams around the world.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a Bethel Sozo look like?

Sozo session is framed with the Father Ladder or the Four Doors. Sozo session will contain elements of the Bethel Sozo tools: Father Ladder, Four Doors, the Wall, and Presenting Jesus. Other tools may be used but not dominate the sozo ministry time.

When is a sozo/deliverance finished?

When you discern that the "strong man" has been defeated, or when you or the sozoee feel that you are finished.

How to handle a religious spirit?

Grace is the "offense" card that the religious spirit rallies against. Release an atmosphere of grace so that you do not come under the religious spirit in the room.

Why a suggested donation?

The Sozo staff are independent contractors and are not Bethel Church staff.

What about donations for church members?

Church members have the same "suggested donation". Be aware to not bow under the spirit of entitlement. Pray against it long before you begin sessions and release a spirit of generosity over your church and ministry.

When to put people on the sozo team?

After the person has attended the Basic Sozo training and completed their own personal Sozo session, we place the people in the Third position on the team. This allows the person to view several Firsts from our team and see if this ministry is really for them. After the Third has sat in on a few sozo sessions (we don't have a set number of sessions), the person will be asking or we will see that they need to be moved to the Second position on the team.

When to move a Second to a First position on the sozo team?

We watch to see the reaction of the Second. The Second who wishes to move to the First position usually starts asking to try to be a First. Or, the current First will indicate to the team leaders that a Second is ready to try the First position.

Note: At Bethel, we put a Second in the First position, with a strong First as backup, to see how the Second will handle the session. The team leaders will then talk to the First and Second about the session and their sense of the readiness of the Second to move to a First position. This may happen several times until the team leaders feel that the Second is ready to become a First.

How to handle team members who need to get the client totally healed?

All of us wish that everyone would walk out completely healed. However, sometimes, the sozoee won't allow you to go any farther. We tell team members to look at what was accomplished rather than what was left to be done. We also tell the sozoee to live with the healing they have received and come back in 3 to 6 months for more healing.

In a Shabar session, when do you know when to quit if complete integration is not accomplished?

When complete integration is not accomplished, focus on providing information, hope, and some integration. Don't force the person or parts to accomplish something you want done. When the parts are no longer wishing /wanting to talk to Father God or Jesus, then the session itself is finished.

When you get to a point when there is no progress toward Father God or Jesus, this could be a place to add more time between the sessions. This extra time will allow the client to process what has occurred up to this point. The client will have the time to see if they like the parts being gone and would wish for more ministry sessions.

Ask the client at this point, if he/she wishes to make another appointment, or live with this point of healing and call at a later date to make an appointment.

Can one Sozo session actually heal a lie that has been believed for many years?

Yes. Once the Lord heals the first time the lie was settled into your spirit, the rest of your life experiences based on this lie will realign to His truth.

How do you minister to someone who received wounds while in the womb?

I ask the Holy Spirit to come and show the individual where He was while the baby was in the womb. Then I ask Him to remove the poisons that the child fed upon during the pregnancy and to realign their body, soul, and spirit to only receive the proper nutrients and to no longer be able to “feed upon” the lies and damages that occurred in the womb.

If addictions are symptoms, then should deliverance be done without doing a Sozo first?

Yes/No. God can always bring instant deliverance. I would usually like to follow up such deliverance with the ability to find out why the addictions were there so that they can walk in complete freedom.

In a ministry time how should deliverance be handled/done?

Very gently. Deliverance is a by product of the wounds and lies healing.

What do you do when you get a religious answer?

I thank God for that answer and ask Him for another thought for the person.

Who should be Sozo leadership?

The leaders of your team should be the ones sozoing the leaders of your church.

Does the training seminar give you enough in-depth information for you to be qualified to counsel with Sozo?

Yes/No. You have been given all the information for the Basic Sozo but you can never underestimate experience. Jump in and give it a try. The CDs are helpful to re-listen to and to watch for any clarification.

Should you go through the Advanced Seminar, as well?

Yes if you are going to be ministering to people. But you should wait until you have been doing this for about six months to fully benefit from the teachings.

Are we released to train others in the Sozo ministry?

Yes/No. Usually, most people begin teaching with our DVD's with their own leadership. They do a weekly training where you watch one of the sessions then begin practicing with each other.

What if it is a 1st that gets in over their head, can the 2nd shut it down?

Yes, but it is important to stay under authority. The second can gently ask the first (or write it down) if they would like them to “try out” something.

What if the 1st doesn’t recognize that they are over their head?

The second should pray for God to bring breakthrough! Many times we are just one step away from an amazing revelation when we are feeling stumped.

Can I lead someone to receive freedom if I don’t have any myself?

Yes/No. God can bring freedom to people even through unhealthy people. But, my concern would be on the effect the ministry would have on you if you are not healthy. It would most likely add a lot of stress to you. We see it often that team members who are not fully healed actually “trigger” in a Sozo session and come away having to have the first pray also for them.

What paperwork do you use?

We use a simple liability release and a very short intake form.

Can I have copies of the paperwork you use for the Sozo ministry?

Yes. But you will want to change them to your specifications. (They are in the Sozo training manuals – not the DVD manuals)

Why do you have donations/fees for the ministry?

"A workman is worthy of his hire." We are not supported financially by Bethel Church. We are independent contractors so we do not draw a salary for our Sozo sessions. Also, we find that people tend to value it more if they have to sow into their own healings.

What do you say to the people who are offended by being asked to donate or pay a fee for the ministry?

We talk about the above reasons. But remember that sometimes a religious spirit will not bow to reason.

Autism

Here is a prayer simply for your consideration for praying for someone who is Autistic. This was developed by one of our team members, Lori Yuan, as she pursued healing for her son. Take it or leave it, adjust it or revise it to your needs, or follow it as is. It is simply information that God gave to Lori for her son's healing.

Curses

A controversial concept today is curses. Some people believe that curses cannot have any effect on a Christian and yet others continue to see the evidence of curses playing out in the lives of Godly people. We are not here to argue which belief you have. However, for two very broken sets of veterans, we are listing here assignments that were declared over our troops while they fought on foreign soil.

Vietnam Veterans: Three assignments were prayed over the veterans 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by the Buddhist Monks in Vietnam.

  • that they would be angry men and women all of their lives
  • that they would have a wandering spirit attached to them
  • that they would never found rest

We have seen so many Vietnam Veterans set free after breaking these curses off of them.

Iraq, Iran, Kuwait Veterans:

  • that their marriages will fail
  • that they would walk under the martyr spirit (this martyr spirit is the veterans feel like they have failed their mission by coming home alive, not that they lived while others died but they did not die at all)

Breaking curses/assignments is not hard to do, you simply use the language they understand and ask if they have seen evidence of these in their lives. Then ask God to come and remove them from walking under these curses/assignments.

International Bethel Sozo Organization

The Bethel Sozo ministry wishes to welcome you to the International Bethel Sozo Organization. We are gathering together individuals, churches, and organizations that have found Sozo to be fun and effective in the inner healing arena.

The Bethel Sozo Ministry was birthed in 1997 to aid individuals in inner healing, freedom and connection to the Godhead. Since 1998, the Bethel Sozo Ministry has been traveling across the United States and internationally; training, equipping, and empowering other churches and organizations to start their own Sozo Ministry. In July of 2008, to better assistant those ministries that have been launched by Bethel Sozo, the International Bethel Sozo Organization was created by Bethel Sozo leaders: Dawna DeSilva and Teresa Liebscher.

Our heart and mission is to bring together individual Sozo ministers or churches from around the world to partner with as we connect people to the Father throughout the nations, while providing support to each.

The position of Regional Director of IBSO is to provide a point of contact for the Bethel Sozo ministries around the world closer then Bethel Sozo in Redding, CA. The Regional Directors can provide training, mentoring, ministry and support for those ministries to be a successful as they can.

What we can do for you:

  • aid, support, and training in dealing with difficult cases, issues or problems
  • provide summits, gathering the ministry leaders, in this roundtable event, to share testimonies, discuss questions, concerns, cases and to bless one another phone/video conference.

Our requirements include the following:

  • receive training from Bethel Sozo through those released by Bethel Sozo via the Teacher's Certification program or through our DVD series
  • currently have an active Sozo ministry for at least six months, ministering under our core values of honor, freedom and healing
  • that you are wanting a connection and aid from Bethel Sozo ministry.

We have different levels of connection to the IBSO. For more information contact Teresa at teresal@ibethel.org.

Spiritual Covering of the IBSO

We see the relationship between IBSO and those in the different levels of the Affiliates as a modified horizontal relationship (as contrasted to a vertical relationship) and such Bethel Sozo will not be the primary spiritual covering for these ministries, although a professional covering can be implied. IBSO asks that you look to your church leadership or organizational leadership as the primary spiritual accountability structure.
